Rx-360 and Habitat for Humanity Make a Positive Impact

On 14 February, 2012, Rx-360 volunteers partnered with Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans, Louisiana before the Informex show to help build two homes in the 7th Ward.  Forty-one Rx-360 members and prospective members joined together for a full day of work on two Habitat for Humanity homes which helped a New Orleans family realize their dream of having their own home.

Rx-360 joined efforts with Habitat for Humanity in the spirit of service to others and to demonstrate that members and show visitors should ‘do well while doing good.’

“Habitat for Humanity embodies what Rx-360 is all about – a group of professionals coming together from all over the world in a voluntary way to address a significant problem. In Rx-360’s case, that significant problem is the security of the global pharmaceutical supply chain and assuring patient safety,” Scott Watson, event coordinator and Rx-360 Membership Committee chair, shared.

The team of Rx-360 volunteers built the foundation and frame for one home and helped install hardwood flooring and paint the second home. The team put their hearts and hard work into the project and at the end of the day, they had the dirt on their hands to prove it. Rx-360 extends its gratitude to the companies whose support made the event possible: Arch Pharmalabs, AMPAC Fine Chemicals, and C&EN (Chemical & Engineering News).

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. It invites people from all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together, in partnership with families in need. It has already helped build more than 500,000 decent,

affordable houses around the world. People in need of housing can apply to buy a Habitat house which is sold on a non-profit basis using affordable loan

Those buying the houses also invest hundreds of hours of their own time to help build both their own house, and houses for others as part of the project.

The mission of Rx-360 is to create and monitor a global quality system that meets the expectations of industry and regulators, that assures patient safety by enhancing product quality and authenticity throughout the supply chain.

This is being done in several ways, including the development of better audit standards, audit training and certification programs, and sharing information about counterfeits, stolen cargo and adulterated product in the pharmaceutical supply chain. Rx-360 is also developing a program of independent, shared audits that will reduce costs for pharmaceutical product manufacturers and raw materials suppliers alike by cutting the length and frequency of audit visits and freeing up resources to increase the number of suppliers being audited.
